Summary

2025年4月13日(日)より開催中の大阪・関西万博において、アニメーション監督・河森正治氏が手がけるシグネチャーパビリオン「いのちめぐる冒険」にて、THINK AND SENSEは演出家・植木豪氏の演出のもと、光るボール「Libera Ball」の開発および照明演出を担当いたしました。

本演出は、「生きとし生けるもの全ては、それぞれが結合し、合体し、また次の”いのち’’を宿していく」という、生命の循環とつながりをテーマとしています。 Libera Ballは、無線制御によって内部にプログラムされた光のシーケンスを再生し、演出とシンクロした光の変化によって、空間全体に一体感と臨場感をもたらします。

At Expo 2025 Osaka, which began on April 13, THINK AND SENSE contributed to the Signature Pavilion “LIVE EARTH JOURNEY” directed by renowned animation director Shoji Kawamori. Under the creative direction of stage director Go Ueki, we were responsible for the development and lighting design of the glowing Libera Ball.

This performance is based on the concept that “all living things are interconnected—merging, combining, and giving rise to the next form of life.” Through this expression of life’s cycles and connections, the Libera Ball plays back pre-programmed light sequences via wireless control. By synchronizing with the choreography, the dynamic lighting transforms the entire space with a sense of unity and immersion.

Technical Details

演出のご要望により、ボールにストラップを取り付ける仕様といたしました。 こうした変更により、ダンサーは片手でボールを安定させることが可能となり、より自由で表現豊かなパフォーマンスが実現しました。

また、光のシーケンスにおいては「命の鼓動」や「輝き」、そしてそれぞれのエレメンツ（要素）を想起させるような演出を追求しました。ろうそくの炎のように静かに灯る柔らかな光から始まり、各エレメンツを象徴する色彩を経て、楽曲のクライマックスに向けて華やかで力強い輝きへと展開するよう、色味やパターンに細部までこだわり設計しています。

ボールへのストラップ取り付けは初の試みであり、実現にあたってはさまざまな課題がありました。ボール本体への穴加工をはじめ、ストラップの素材選定や強度の検証など、繰り返し検討と試作を重ねることで、安全性と表現力を両立させる仕様に仕上げました。

At the request of the creative team, we modified the ball to include a strap. This allowed dancers to stabilize the ball with one hand, enabling greater freedom and a richer range of expression in their performance.

For the lighting sequence, we explored expressions that evoke the heartbeat of life, inner radiance, and the essence of each element. The sequence begins with a soft, candle-like glow, gradually transitioning through colors that represent each element. Toward the climax of the music, the lights evolve into a dazzling and dynamic display. Every detail of the color palette and pattern was carefully designed to enhance the emotional impact of the performance.

Attaching a strap to the ball was a first-time endeavor for us, and it presented several challenges. From drilling into the ball itself to selecting appropriate strap materials and rigorously testing for durability, we went through multiple rounds of trials and adjustments. Through this process, we achieved a design that balances both safety and expressive performance.
