Stillness 2022

禅をテーマにした本作品は、 京都  両足院 副住職伊藤東凌氏の協力の元、高精度レーザースキャン技術により三次元化したデータを、最もミニマルな「点」のランドスケープと収録された両足院内外の音を再構築したサウンドスケープにより禅の世界観の一端を表現する。

白を基調とし、雲からインスピレーションを得た距離感を融解するヴィジュアル 黒を基調とした、物質の存在感を融解するヴィジュアル ２つのヴィジュアルを交互に行き来することで、静と動の体験を構築する。 空間を構成するサウンドスケープは、立体音響で収録された両足院内外の音を再構築。 相補的な自然音と電子音の関係性や、静と動の組み合わせによる構成変化など。

ヴィジュアルとサウンド両方の側面から禅思想の中にある「個と外界の境界線の融解」や「緊張と緩和」などを具現化し体験として昇華する。 「緊張と緩和」の中にある、静寂を通して見つけることができないもの、聞くことができないもの、禅の思想を通して、自己に没入するイマーシブな体験の一端をデジタルで表現する。

Themed around the concept of Zen, the piece reveals glimpses of Zen world by minimal ”particle” landscape constructed from highly precise 3D scanned data and soundscape reconstructed from recorded sounds of inside and outside the Zen temple, which was achieved through in association with Vice Abbot Toryo Ito of Ryosokuin Zen Temple of Kyoto.A white themed visual, inspired from clouds, disintegrates a sense of distance. A black themed visual disintegrates the presence of matter. By oscillating between the two visuals, the piece creates an experience of inertia and liveliness. The soundscape that fills up the space is a re-establishment of the recorded stereophonic sounds inside and outside of the Zen temple. For instance, the representations of the complementary relationships between natural and electric sounds and the changes in the art composition of inertia and liveliness are expressed throughout the piece.The piece materializes the ideas of “The disintegration of a boundary between oneself and the outer world” and “Tension and Release” in the Zen philosophy from both visual and sound aspects, and sublimates them into a form that one can experience.Through the notions of Zen, the piece digitally showcases the “senses” described within the idea of “Tension and Release” that are only visible and audible in silence, and gives an insight into the self-immersive experience.
